Cloth Diapering Myths vs Facts
August 20, 2008
So for
those of you who have been keeping up with my blogs you
know that I am about to be a first time parent. I am
due in about 2 weeks or whenever this little decides
they are ready to come out. With the excitement of
being a parent there are so many decisions a new parent
is faced with; breast milk vs. formula, pacifier vs. no
pacifier, organic bedding and clothes, to cloth diapers
vs. disposable diapers. After doing my research on
diapering I have come across some very important
information that I feel is my duty to pass on to new
and old moms everywhere. There is a lot of misleading
information out there on this topic and I want to set
some of it straight.
Myth 1: Cloth Diapering is too expensive.
Truth 1: When compared to disposable diapers cloth diapers are much more cost effective and environmentally safe than the disposable. If this is your first child the start up cost for cloth diapering is more expensive but over the child’s course of diapering it can save you $1,000-$2,000, plus cloths diapers can be used over and over for multiple children.
Myth 2: Cloth diapers are bulky.
Truth 2: With the new style of cloth diapers they are much more snug fitting and more fitted than they used to be. They can be trimmer than disposables depending on the type of cloth diaper you use.
Myth 3: You have to change cloth diapers more frequently.
Truth 3: Sadly with disposable diapers they are made more absorbent now-a-days and because of that parents do not change their babies diapers as often actually causing the bacteria to build up and cause more diaper rash.
Myth 4: Disposable diapers are not made with harmful chemicals.
Fact 4: Harsh perfumes and chemical emissions have long been known to induce asthma like symptoms in children and adults. Researchers have found that disposable diapers might also be a trigger for asthma. Some of the toxins that were emitted from the diapers were the following: Tolune, xylene, ethylbenzene, styrene, and isopropylbenzene, among others. Researchers advised asthmatic parents to avoid disposable diapers and to keep them away from their children who are more sensitive to these asthma antagonists.
So my warning to new parents please do your research for the health and safety are your unborn child or even for your current children. We are a society that watches Television and believe everything everyone says without gaining the knowledge through researching it. Let’s protect our future generation from harmful chemicals and toxins.
How safe is your new nursery? How safe are the toys you bought, or the bottles? Be informed.

Toxicity Warning!
August 19, 2008
Have you
ever wondered how much toxicity you have within your
body? From the air we breathe to the water we drink to
the metals that are deposited in our brain? It is
alarming the epidemic that we are currently facing in
our country of death due to toxins, more specifically
neurotoxins. These toxins attack the neurons in your
brain. One of the top ones is Mercury. Well you are
probably thinking “I don’t have any mercury in my body
I never played with a broken thermometer when I was
younger.” The problem is that almost all childhood
vaccinations and adult vaccinations have mercury
contained within them. This mercury is over 129% higher
than what is considered the “normal mercury daily
dosage.” That brings up the interesting point of what
is the “normal mercury daily dosage?” Doesn’t it seem
obvious that we should not be bringing in any mercury?
It does to me and it should to you. Another source of
mercury and one of the top sources are amalgam fillings
in your mouth. If you open and see silver you have
mercury that is directly in contact with your saliva
glands and continuously off-gases into your brain,
creating many neurological problems. You need to look
into detoxifying your system and riding your body of
these life threatening metals. Ask us for advice how!

Attention Deficit Disorder & Chiropractic
July 31, 2008
In the last
week I have had a couple of my patients ask me about
Attention Deficit Disorder and if Chiropractic care
could help. As a chiropractor many people do not
understand that we treat much more than back pain or
headaches, but essentially treat the nervous system. So
my answer to their question is yes chiropractic care
can and will help their child with Attention Deficit
Disorder or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
Children and Adults with ADD experience a decrease in
dopamine secretion within the brain. Individuals with
ADD or ADHD show abnormal function of their frontal
lobes and pleasure center within their brain. People
with ADD or ADHD require high levels of stimulations
due to the decrease in dopamine secretion.
Research has shown that chiropractic care and a modified diet have decreased the symptoms of ADD and ADHD to the point of non-existence. Chiropractic care works at restoring the nerve flow to the brain allowing the brain to function at higher levels allowing the dopamine to be secreted at normal levels. In conjunction with Chiropractic care it is also very important to modify the individuals diet. A diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables, nutrients and omega 3 fatty acids is very effective at treating individuals naturally.
So my question for you is do you have ADD or ADHD or do you know someone who has this condition and are taking drugs daily to cope with the symptoms? If you do please refer them in for a FREE consultation.

Cholesterol, Good or Bad?
July 31, 2008
Cholesterol?
Good or Bad?
What a joke. One of the greatest myths ever told was that Cholesterol causes heart disease and ultimately death. Cholesterol does no such thing. Your liver manufactures cholesterol to help in times of inflammation, to manufacture hormones and to make and synthesize vitamin D. Some other facts for you, the brain is 60% cholesterol. If you decrease your cholesterol by taking a cholesterol lowering medication, aka a statin, it does in fact lower your cholesterol levels in the body but also in your brain. When you decrease the levels in the brain you also decrease the amount of serotonin your brain produces and creates depression. That’s funny since the number one prescribed drugs on the market right now is an Anti-Depressant!!! When your body produces cholesterol it is doing the right thing at the right time 100% of the time. So quit trying to regulate your cholesterol with statin drugs, instead begin living the 5 Essentials of Maximized Living. Ask me for more information if you have a friend or someone you love and care about that is taking these damaging and life threatening drugs.

Chiropractic Care and Pregnancy: A Safer, Easier Birth
July 21, 2008
Many People
never think to go to a Chiropractor during Pregnancy.
Our primary focus is on restoring nerve flow so the
body can heal and function at 100%. The same goes for
women pre-pregnancy, throughout pregnancy, and post
pregnancy. The pregnant woman’s body now has to support
and provide for two. The woman’s body undergoes many
changes during pregnancy; one significant change is the
spine and pelvis. The spine and pelvis must adapt and
change to compensate for the growing baby. Specific
chiropractic care throughout pregnancy works with
enhancing nervous system function, thus providing
greater health for both mom and baby.
When the spine and pelvis displace out of their normal spinal alignment, chiropractors refer to this as a subluxation. When this occurs during pregnancy, it is primarily caused by the stress and trauma of the changing positions of the bones. When the spine and pelvis subluxate, this causes an imbalance in the woman’s pelvic muscles and ligaments. This constraint restricts the baby’s positions during pregnancy and affects the development of the baby’s spine and cranium. These limitations on the baby’s movement prevent him/her from getting into the best possible position for birth. These positions lead to longer more painful labors with increased medical intervention in birth.
Chiropractors are trained to remove these subluxations from the spine and pelvis restoring nerve flow and allowing the muscles and ligaments around the sacrum to be in the best position. With these adjustments, it allows the baby to get into the best possible position for birth. With the proper position of the baby, the mother will have a shorter less labor and a less traumatic birth for the baby.
Being pregnant myself, I have seen this absolutely true as I get adjusted many times a week. My body and nerve flow are clearly functioning better and hopefully my labor will go more smoothly because of it. If you know anyone who is pregnant and not getting adjusted, make sure they give us a call!

If Antidepressants Are So Dangerous, How Do They Get Past The FDA?
July 21, 2008
That’s a
major question I often wonder about and after doing
some research, here’s what I’ve found. Many believe
there is an arduous process of getting FDA (Federal
Drug Administration) approval. Therefore, they cannot
understand how the drugs get approval if they are so
dangerous.
The Freedom of Information Act allowed a recent research group to obtain all the studies used by the FDA to approve seven new antidepressants between 1987 and 1997, including Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Effexor, Serzone, and Wellbutrin. Nine out of ten studies showed that the drugs were no more effective than placebos. In addition, Prozac has had more adverse side effects submitted to the FDA than any other drug in history.
So how do these drugs get approved? In 1989, Dr. Barry Garfinkel was found guilty on two counts of mail fraud and three counts of filing false statements and spent one year in a halfway house and under house arrest. His fines totaled $210,000. While doing research on antidepressants he instructed lab technicians to invent data on patient visits that had never taken place. In other words, he created patients who took the drugs with no adverse events when in reality these patients did not exist.
In another case, two professors from the Medical College of Georgia were also convicted and each was ordered to $125,000 in fines and serve 5-15 years in prison. These two professors were connected with clinical testing of psychiatric drugs with twenty different companies for more than a decade including Eli Lilly and Pfizer.
The list in these types of cases goes on and on, but by the time the cases go to court the drugs have already been approved and nothing is done to review new evidence. After looking at all the studies done the research group concluded that based on all the published and unpublished data, out of every 1,000 people with depression that were treated with one on the new antidepressants, 4.6 (460 times) more committed suicide each year than would have if they had not received any treatment at all. Something even more alarming is that seriously depressed patients and anyone suicidal were excluded from the studies. Only people with mild to moderate depression were tested at all, yet these drugs are given like candy to children and adults alike.
So research is showing that drugs approved by the FDA should be taken with a grain of salt, right? Keep an eye on how quickly the “next” antidepressant is released and all the hype surrounding it. Scary stuff. I’ll continue to get adjusted and apply the 5 principles to Maximized Living instead.

Cholesterol Meds for Kids???
July 16, 2008
Unbelievable!
That’s all I can say about the current state of Health
that our country is in. Time Magazine July 21, 2008
“Pediatricians call for cholesterol-lowering drugs for
some kids. Is this a quick fix for obesity’s ills?” The
answer to this is definitely yes. What are we thinking?
Cholesterol testing is now being performed on your
children beginning at age 2 up to age 8. I will 100%
agree that we are battling an epidemic of extreme
proportions with the growing trend in Obesity. Our
country is the largest country in the world. In fact,
one-third of US children are overweight and 17% are
obese. The problem is instead of getting after the ones
who are manufacturing the foods and the FDA for
approving the foods; we immediately look to a
prescription drug to fix our problems. Instead of
children running around and playing outside more and
more kids are sitting in front of the television
playing video games all day long. How about an exercise
program? How about a proper functioning nervous system?
The power that made the body heals the body and it
happens no other way. If we continue to drug our
society beginning at such a young age as 2 than we are
doomed and have chosen to place our health in the hands
of our doctors who have no power to heal you
whatsoever. Time magazine closed with the right mindset
in saying “But it’s certainly easier to scribble a
prescription than it is to get young patients to eat
better and exercise more. Are we going to keep adding
drug after drug?” You decide!!! Remember who you are!
